Care Guide:

  • Placement: Outdoor. It is sensitive to frost in the spring (late May in Quebec) and leaf-scorch in July. Use 30% shade cloth during peak summer afternoons.
  • Watering: During July and August, you may need to water twice a day. Maples are prone to "leaf curl" if the humidity is too low.
  • Pruning: Use the "Long Shoot" method. Let a branch grow long to thicken the trunk, then cut back to the first pair of leaves in spring.
  • Wintering: Very sensitive roots. Must be protected from deep freezes. A cold cellar or a deep mulch bed is required in Canada.
