Species Guide

Ficus Retusa

The most robust indoor species. It can tolerate the lower light levels and lower humidity of a typical home better than any other tree.

Ficus Retusa

Care Guide:

  • Placement: Indoor (Year-round) or Outdoor (Summer only). Move it outside when night temperatures stay above 15°C.
  • Humidity: To encourage the iconic aerial roots, the humidity must be above 75%. You can achieve this by using a clear plastic "tent" over the tree for a few weeks in summer.
  • Watering: It is a "Goldilocks" plant—not too wet, not too dry. It can survive a few days of dry soil, but will drop leaves if overwatered.
  • Wiring: Be careful; Ficus grows fast. Check wires every 3 weeks to ensure they aren't cutting into the soft bark.
